St Andrew's Day Eve Movie Night

posted Oct 30, 2016, 1:49 AM by City of Gosford Pipe Band Inc   [ updated Oct 30, 2016, 2:16 AM ]

The City of Gosford Pipe Band invite you to join us on the eve of St. Andrew’s Day for an evening of Scottish entertainment. We will welcome you to the Avoca Beach Picture Theatre with a couple of tunes before a one-off encore screening of the critically acclaimed comedy What We Did on Our Holiday.

What We Did on Our Holiday is a 2014 British comedy-drama film written and directed by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin. The film, starring David Tennant, Rosamund Pike, and Billy Connolly, was inspired by but not related to the BBC show Outnumbered.

Doug and Abi are taking their three children on a trip to Scotland for a big family gathering. They are in the midst of a difficult divorce, and have asked the kids to keep it a secret from their extended family. But as the inevitable feuds kick in, a completely unexpected turn of events involving the children causes further tensions to rise to the surface. And with the repercussions that ensue - hilarious and emotional in equal measure - the family are forced to put aside their differences and work together or else risk losing what they hold most dear.

7:30pm Tuesday 29th November 2016

Tickets $20 (available from Laycock Street Dance Studios and band members).

Pipers wanted

posted Oct 4, 2016, 10:31 PM by City of Gosford Pipe Band Inc   [ updated Oct 4, 2016, 10:31 PM ]

The City of Gosford Pipe Band is eagerly seeking Bagpipers.

We currently have a strong and engaged membership, however the number of competent, playing numbers is lower than we need to service the many engagements we get requested for each year. We are thankful to those who guest with us and are excited to soon welcome at least 2 of our 4 learner Pipers into the corps. But it is playing Pipers at... the top of our recruitment list.

Do you know anyone who plays Bagpipes, but not yet found the band for them?

We are a social band committed to our community and looking forward to joining the competition arena when the membership complements the needs of such competition.

Please share to all your Piping friends. Our AGM is just around the corner and we invite all who would like to be part of our band.

City of Gosford Pipe Band needs uniforms and equipment

posted Oct 19, 2009, 1:17 PM by City of Gosford Pipe Band Inc   [ updated Oct 3, 2016, 9:32 PM ]

A year after being reformed, the City of Gosford Pipe Band is now in the process of putting band members in uniform and purchasing equipment for parades.

In October 2014, a group of Pipers and Drummers came together after community sentiment had called for the reforming of the City of Gosford Pipe Band.

Once a thriving community asset, the band ceased operation in the late 1990s.

The challenge of purchasing uniforms and parade equipment comes with an estimated price tag of $70,000. So far, the band has raised $10,000 and it is now offering the community the opportunity to contribute by making online donations.

Band president, Mr Douglas McFarland said he is thrilled that the band is at the stage of requiring uniforms.

“The uniform of the band connects the unit to its traditional roots, provides an image for the community to recognise and attach to, sends a message of discipline and order and fills members with a sense of pride, thus improving engagement and ultimately performance”, said Mr McFarland.

“As a grassroots organisation dedicated to being a long term community asset, it is important that we involve the community in the process,” he said. “Thus by putting the community in a position to assist, they will be able to instantly connect with the band and feel a sense of ownership when they see the band in its uniform,” he said.

“By building this together it creates stronger community links and is a great foundation of a strong relationship long into the future.

“As the City of Gosford Pipe Band, we belong to the city, not any one individual or organisation, but the city at large,” he said.

“These uniforms will become assets of the band and remain the property of the City of Gosford Pipe Band, a public, not for profit, incorporated association. “With good care these uniforms will become the image of the band for decades.”

Funds raised online will be used to purchase a set of drums and jackets. “We hope to be able to order these before the end of 2015.
